Last month we took the train into Hiroshima with all of these amazing
plans for the day only to have them ruined by the rain. So we had to
spent a good portion of the day stuck in the mall (yes I know that was
pure torture!) The rain finally let up in the afternoon so we went over
to Peace Park. What a sad but beautiful area to visit.

The A-Bomb Dome |
Below is the Memorial tower to the mobilized students. It's a monument for the students who died during the bombing and air strike. There is an audio that states:
During WW2 more than 3 million students over 12 years of age
were mobilized for labor services throughout the country. As a result, more
than 10 thousand students were killed including some 6 thousand killed by the
atomic bomb. They gave up their youth and studies for their nation. This tower
was erected by concerned families and friends to console the souls of these
victims who sacrificed themselves for their homeland and who would have had a
promising future had there been no war.

The Children's Peace Monument |
|
This statue is dedicated to the memory of the children who died as a result of the bombing. |

The Peace Flame with the museum building in the background |
|
The flame has burned continuously since it was lit in 1964, and will
remain lit until all nuclear bombs on the planet are destroyed and the
planet is free from the threat of nuclear annihilation. |
|
The Memorial Cenotaph, this holds the names of all of the people killed by the bomb. It is aligned to frame the Peace Flame and the A-Bomb Dome |
